Job Description

Royal Building Products is currently seeking an R&D Engineer to develop new products and processes, analyze potential business opportunities for feasibility, and develop procedures, specifications and all other pertinent information to successfully produce profitable products.


The essential duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Product Development organization personnel in daily activities.
  • Develop CAD Drawings for products, equipment and testing apparatus.
  • Maintain product documentation and specifications using CAD and enterprise systems.
  • Develop and document testing, operating procedures and training materials.
  • Perform product testing to determine performance and liability (in-house and outside sources).
  • Develop and define profile and/or product specifications.
  • Assist and direct the process of developing new products and technologies from concepts and ideas through research, development and into full scale operations.
  • Develop new products and production methods.
  • Troubleshoot production problems and provide process and profit improvement assistance to operations.
  • Test, develop, specify and order equipment to improve existing production methods.
  • Assist sales personnel and customers with technical product information, proper installation and troubleshooting field issues and complaints.
  • Conduct training sessions for sales and customers on products and processes.
  • Develop technical literature for product properties and product application.
  • Stay current with codes, regulations and standards relative to our products and their use in the market place.
  • Process Engineering Change Notifications for product changes and modifications.
  • Provide support to customer service representatives and customers, answer product questions and evaluate product complaint calls.


Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is preferred, other closely related technical fields will be considered.


The ideal candidate will possess the following essential skills and qualifications:

  • Experience:

Five to ten years of experience in PVC extrusion or similar polymer processing is preferred.  New college graduates and candidates with less than five years of experience will be considered if specific education and/or job experience is relevant to our products and processes.

  • Skills:

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to apply engineering principles are required.  The ability to organize data and information, to deliver visual and oral presentations, and strong project management skills is required.  AutoCad proficiency is preferred but not mandatory. Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems and specifically to our products and processes is required.  The ability to appropriately communicate technical information to all facets of personnel including equipment operators, maintenance technicians, technical peers, product managers, sales persons, customers and upper management is necessary is also required.
