JOB TITLE:  Planner-Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Robert Carmichael – Superintendent-Production

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Abbotsford Pipe Superintendent-Production, the Planner-Maintenance will be responsible to support the Supervisor-Maintenance and journey trades to safely and efficiently maintain the physical plant via optimal computerized work planning for planned/scheduled and breakdown work.  In conjunction with this goal, the Planner-Maintenance will coordinate Maintenance procurement.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

1.  Occupational Health and Safety

•Report all incidents, accidents and/or hazards and cooperate with the JHSC to improve safety.
•Comply with the B. C. Workers Compensation Act, particularly the “Duties of a Worker” as stated in Division 3, Section 114.
•Communicate, coach and enforce divisional health and safety rules, policies and procedures within the maintenance team.
•Reinforce Supervisor-Maintenance’s messaging to ensure maintenance employees develop a safe-work culture in the conduct of maintenance work.

2.  Employee Relations

•Communicate positively and pro-actively with hourly maintenance employees, as required.  Ensuring understanding of their role and the operational objectives they support (e.g.: equipment uptime and scrap control).
•Comply with company Code of Conduct and B.C. Policy on Discrimination and Harassment.
•Build team capabilities by providing and/or participating in development and skill training, as required.
•Comply with company rules, regulations and policies as stated in the Employee Relations Manual and/or Employee Handbook.
•Perform other duties assigned by Superintendent-Production.

3. Maintenance Department:

•Schedule maintenance work orders for employees and contractors in Computerized Maintenance Management Program (CMMS).
•With a culture of urgency that draws upon previous equipment repair expertise, develop repair options for Production team that assess potential risks, leading to better decision-making for breakdown and planned repairs.
•Continuously update the preventative and predictive maintenance program to assist the operation to meet annual production targets.  Support a data-focused approach, improve our uptime predictability and forecasts of when equipment replacement is a better economic solution to continuing to maintain existing.
•In partnership with the Supervisor-Maintenance, advocate for and foster an environment of urgency for safe and rapid work completion.
•Report any known or suspected deficiencies in systems, facilities, individual work performance, machinery, equipment and/or tools immediately to Supervisor-Maintenance and Superintendent-Production.
•Coordinate procurement for the Maintenance Department including materials, shop supplies, spares, rebuilds and tools.   In consultation with the Supervisor-Maintenance, contribute to the management of parts and equipment efficiency and in accordance with risk and costs associated with unexpected downtime.
•Backfill Supervisor-Maintenance when absent.  Provide additional work guidance during heavy maintenance periods (e.g.: annual maintenance shutdown)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

•Journey tradesperson with 5+ years as M/W and/or Electrician and an additional 5+ yrs. as Planner-Maintenance in a continuous manufacturing/process setting where Millwrights and Electricians are the lead trades, or;
•Engineering Technologist (preferred Mechanical) from a recognized educational institution with 5+ years’ experience
•Computer literacy is essential (Outlook, Word, Excel and CMMS on a recognized ERP platform).  Proven record of administering a CMMS in a manufacturing environment is an absolute essential.
•Experience in a continuous, multi-line operation would be an asset
•Excellent verbal & written communication.
•A hands-on individual with good people skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to perform administrative work in an office environment involving frequent use of keyboard.  They are also expected to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally climb or balance.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and vibration.  The employee is rarely exposed to high, precarious places.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
