Job Summary:

The Manager-R&D Engineering will be responsible for directing the day-to-day activities of product development, manufacturing technology, and technical support for products manufactured in Marion and Bristol plants, and be responsible for all code compliance activity for all Royal Exteriors businesses.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, planning and oversight of the research and development departmental activities, personnel and projects.

  • Develop and maintain an environment that focuses on improving processes related to reducing cost, increasing quality and ensuring on time project completion.

  • Manage the introduction of new product concepts and ideas from research into the production phase.

  • Work with manufacturing, sales and marketing on new product introduction.

  • Conduct technical training sessions for sales force and customers on products and processes introduced to the market.

  • Provide leadership in the development of intellectual property and patent applications.

  • Specify and order equipment to improve on existing production techniques as well as the development of new products and technologies.

  • Maintain and attain code compliance for all Royal Exteriors products in all Royal Exteriors plants as needed

  • Visit with customers and prospective customers to obtain information regarding research and development activities and projects.

  • Draft and present research results to senior management team for review and discussion.

  • Oversee and administer departmental budget.

  • Maintain a safe working environment for all employees and ensure that employees follow established safety rules to ensure the goal of zero injuries.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state safety and environmental regulations.

  • Administer company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to the satisfaction of the Director-Product Development.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field required.


Minimum ten (10) years of research and development and/or engineering experience in polymer processing, extrusion, and/or injection moulding. Demonstrated experience working with marketing and manufacturing on the development and commercialization of new products. Strong understanding of efficient manufacturing methods such as Toyota Production System, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
