Responsible for ensuring new product and production expansion projects   transition successfully from design through qualification into manufacturing.  Support the New Product Development (NPD) and Ops team by leading projects that deliver prototypes, capacity enhancements and newly released products at production rates that meet market needs. 

Primary responsibility will be as liaison between design engineering and plant operations.  This includes assisting NPD with DF(M) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) review, and determining plant capabilities to successfully manufacture new products. This role will ensure product prototypes are made to requirements, new tooling needs are scoped, product certifications are accomplished and production startup is completed to meet market needs and deliver on the design and sales volume expectations. 

Secondary responsibilities include product compliance review and audit evaluation, liason between company and regulatory agencies, new product design and engineering, product optimization and production capabilities expansion projects.  The role is also tasked with ensuring engineering documentation and product master data is accurate and consistent.


50%  New Product Transition to Manufacturing

  • Act as NPD project team member responsible for ensuring all requirements to successfully manufacture new products are met.  Work with appropriate Manufacturing Manager(s), and Plant and Supply Chain personnel to achieve. 
  • Lead stage/gate process deliverables associated with product design for manufacturability, operations preparation, pilot production, qualification/certification and manufacturing startup.
  • Assist Product Management, Operations and Product Engineering in determining optimal product manufacturing footprint to best service market and optimize capabilities.
  • Provide design for manufacturability, assembly and safety input.  Lead DFMEA reviews and ensure design improvements are implemented.
  • Assist Purchasing and Operations in identifying and qualifying suppliers for sourced components and validate components meet product needs.

20% Product Agency Compliance and Regulatory Liason

  • Act as company representative to agencies such as ASTM, NSF and FM to ensure continuous compliance of our products to agency requirements.
  • Support compliance audits to proactively improve compliance position
  • Provide consulting to new requirement documents, and best practices to meet new listings.
  • Provide project management to new product listing activities

15%  Production Expansion, Integration and Product Qualification

  • Lead projects that expand products to new manufacturing geographies ensuring all tasks defined in project requirements are complete.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project is accurately scoped and scheduled, and product qualification and release criteria are documented.
  • Validate production processes, sourced items and plant, product, packaging and HU certifications deliver customer needs.

15%  New Product Development

  • Complete new product and product modification projects to requirements, including new product concept/prototype, 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting and design validation.
  • Assist Engineering team in New Product Development including participation in brainstorms, qualification best practices and design reviews
  • Support new product field trials and customer field training for new products at job site locations
  • Review and update product drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation to ensure documentation accuracy, consistency and standard practices are met.


  • A BS in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ yrs experience in manufacturing engineering and/or new product development with a focus on production startup.
  • Experience with plastic part molding and extrusion
  • Hands on experience in manufacturing plant environment with documented safety best practices.
  • Experience implementing DFMEA tools, and leading Design for Manufacturability reviews.
  • Experience working within a Stage-Gate product development process and leading projects.
  • Experience documenting products using industry standard GD&T dimensioning principles.
  • 3-D CAD modelling and 2-D drafting using Solidworks
  • Experience with simulation based design use FEA a plus
  • Familiar with lab test equipment, comfortable learning & using lab equipment
  • Experience working with ASTM and other agency standards, following protocol and ensuring compliance.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with PVC extrusion and machining is a definite plus


  • Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere
  • Must have mechanical aptitude, and the ability to analyze data and test results as well as solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Should have a strong sense of urgency; aggressive and driven to succeed and to overcome all obstacles
  • Must have excellent written/verbal communication skills 
  • Must work safely - responsible for observing all Plant standard operating procedures and safety policies
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly lift and/or move heavy test samples.
  • Position requires approximately 30% travel
