SUMMARY

Westlake Chemical is offering an opportunity to apply your experience and skills as a Senior Process Engineer.  This position is based in Sulphur, LA at our Petro, Ethylene and Olefins (PE&O) site. The FLSA status for this position is exempt and will report directly to the Engineering Superintendent.  The following is a general list of routine job duties, responsibilities, and requirements which are intended as a guide to enable the Senior Process Engineer to better understand the various situations particular to the assigned job. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and/or support studies to acheive company goals with regard to safety, production, efficiency, etc.
  • Support development of capital budget by participating in brainstorming sessions to generate ideas for improvements, prepare high level scopes, and perform economic calculations for project screening.
  • Initiate and manage 'Management of Changes' (MOC) for assigned projects.
  • Provide process engineering support for assigned projects from conception throught start-up.
  • Prepare, lead and/or participate in Process Hazard Analysis / Layer of Protection Analysis (PHA/LOPA).  Share in PHA / LOPA recommendations assignements.  Follow up on all recommendations.
  • Create, update, review, and/or support development of process safety informatin as needed (procedures, chemical interaction matrix, operator training, etc.)
  • Lead an/or participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.  Follow up on PSSR action items to ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at any given time.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot specific plant operting problems as requested by the Production Unit and agree to by the Process Department Manager.
  • Provide day-to-day technical assistance in the plant as requested.  Attend the morning meetings for the assigned area to maintain communication.
  • Provide support during plant upsets, shutdowns, turnarounds, and startups.  Must be available for call out.
  • Lead and/or participate in incident reviews.  Follow up and/or complete action items form the Root Cause Analysis in a timely manner.
  • Optimize unit operations as assigned.
  • Mentor and assist less experienced engineers when needed.
  • Perform tasks in a timely manner that complies with company policies and procedures and respects safety and the environment.

  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.

  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others. Promptly report Safety, Health or Environment issues or incidents to management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering with an acceptable academic record.
  • Eight years of experience in petrochemical plant operations or technology or an advanced degree.
  • Prefer experience in Ethylene or Styrene.
