Westlake Chemical is offering an opportunity to apply your experience and skills as a Production Engineer II. This position is based in Sulphur, LA at our Poly, Ethylene and Olefins (PE&O) site.  The FLSA status for this position is Exempt and will report directly to the Unit Manager. The following is a general list of routine job duties, responsibilities, and requirements which are intended as a guide to enable the Production - Engineer II to better understand the various situations particular to the assigned job. 

Summary

Assist with the analyses and trouble-shooting of Process operations and collection of technical information.  Assist in taking corrective action needed to maintain consistent quality and efficient operation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Group Leader with the analyses and trouble-shooting of Process operations and collection of technical information. Take corrective action needed to maintain consistent quality and efficient operation.

  • Attend monthly safety meetings.

  • Provide general support forthe Production department including performing environmental release calculations and root cause analyses on HSE events.

  • Monitor day-to-day operation of unit  and provide recommendations in order to minimize costs, maintain quality, and maximize production.

  • Trouble-shoot process problems, determine and communicate corrective actions to appropriate personnel, oversee implementation of solutions.

  • Initiate projects through the development of 'Engineering Service Request' packages consisting of a process scope, equipment and instrumentation data sheets, red-line drawings (PFD's, P&ID's, plot plans, etc.) process hazards, and preliminary environmental questionnaire.

  • Prepare, lead, and/or participate in Process Hazard Analysis / Layer of Protection Analysis (PHA / LOPA).  Share in PHA / LOPA recommendations assignments.  Follow up on recommendations.

  • Review design and implementation of process changes to make sure goals and objectives are achieved.

  • Initiate and manage 'Management of Change' (MOC) for assigned projects.

  • Create, update, review and/or support development of process safety information as needed. (P&ID's, procedures, chemical interaction matrix, operator training, etc.)

  • Communicate technical information regarding proper operation of equipment as necessary to train operations personnel.

  • Lead and/or participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.  Follow up on PSSR action items to ensure completion in a timely manner. 

  • Perform studies to improve operating efficiency, profitability, quality, and safety.  Keep the Production department updated on new technology and process techniques.  Report unit performance to management.

  • Provide support during plant upsets, shutdowns, turnarounds, and startups.  Must be available for call out.

  • Optimize unit operations as assigned.

  • Support Westlake Continuous Improvement (WCI) efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
  • B.S Degree in Chemical Engineering and three years of full time work in a chemical plant.
  • Engineering and operational experience in an Olefins facility with progressive technical knowledge is preferred.
  • Computer programming and application skills.
