Job Description

Position Summary: 

Act as an electrical “Subject Matter Expert” for maintenance, reliability, troubleshooting and project support for the Longview chemical plant.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance plans for critical electrical equipment, such as high voltage transformers, switchgear, rectifiers, battery backup power systems, safety critical instrumentation, and process control systems.  Advise management and develop plans for appropriate maintenance practices of electrical and control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISA 84.01 (IEC 61511) for plant safety instrumented systems (SIS). This includes managing the implementation and documentation of proof-tests and equipment failures, and keeping equipment information up to date.
  • Review electrical equipment inspection data, direct corrective actions and develop equipment plans to address long term reliability.
  • Identify, using LEAN and SixSigma statistical tools, opportunities for improvements in electrical and instrumentation maintenance.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of electrical equipment failures.
  • Trouble-shoot electrical and controls systems when plant problems occur.
  • Oversee the quality of work being performed by Westlake electrical and instrumentation technicians and contractors.
  • Support electrical aspects of capital projects, including writing specifications for instrumentation, switchgear, MCC’s, and other electrical equipment.  Provide input on project designs before they are approved.
  • Support the MOC process from an electrical standpoint by confirming and approving electrical and instrumentation checklist criteria.
  • Design and manage small capital projects, including making electrical drawings, equipment specifications, and scope of work.  Oversee quality of work being performed by construction contractors.
  • Maintain the site’s electrical drawings and oversee electrical document control procedure.
  • Support plant controls system engineer by troubleshooting PLC logic and DeviceNet issues.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation products, RSLogix 5000, RSView32 desired.
  • Create drawings using computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Test installations and systems, and analyze data.
  • Attend meetings, write reports and make presentations to management.

Experience:

Preferred five years of experience in a refinery, chemical or petrochemical plant performing engineering design responsibilities


Education and Certifications:

B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent progressive engineering experience
