Job Description

POSITION: Clerk I                                                                            

SUMMARY:

Responsible for confidential claims management of the plant's Workers' Compensation activity.

Prepares reports, letters, memoranda; Performs administrative detail work on various projects and programs, many of which are confidential.

Assists the Dispensary on an as-needed basis; maintains departmental files and records.

Answers telephone and in-person inquiries.

Assists with Safety Stand-by work as needed.

Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.

Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an up-to-date accident experience log with a corresponding OSHA 300 log.
  • Receive all Workers' Compensation bills and process paper work for payment and distribution.
  • Reconcile Workers' Compensation bills against accounts payable ledger.
  • Prepare weekly make-up pay request vouchers and forward to plant payroll for processing.
  • Prepare and forward correspondence to Workers' Compensation headquarters.
  • Keep employee medical and Workers' Compensation files current.
  • Coordinates the plant's safety shoe program.
  • Coordinates the plant's safety glass program.
  • Performs secretarial and clerical duties for the Health, Safety & Environmental Department.
  • Type confidential correspondence for the HS&E Department.
  • Receive phone calls from plant requesting safety assistance - contact safety representative via radio and direct him to appropriate plant location.
  • Uses PC to prepare various projects, programs and documents.
  • Opens, sorts and distributes incoming mail and handles certification and mailing of all Health, Safety & Environmental correspondence.
  • Maintains various departmental records including vacation, weekly payroll and overtime log.
  • Maintains up-to-date safety procedure book.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Graduate.  Knowledge of Kentucky Department of Labor Workers' Compensation Law.  Knowledge of plant Labor Union  Agreement as it applies to matters pertaining to Workers' Compensation benefits preferred.  Knowledgeable operation of  personal computer.  Proficient in use of  PC applications (Word, Excel, etc.).  Superior communication skills to interface with employees and outside contacts.
