Job Description

SUMMARY

Manage sales and operations planning (S&OP) for major components of the chlorine envelope including merchant Chlorine/EDC/VCM or Caustic. Responsibilities include developing a rolling supply plan to meet anticipated demand, optimizing system operating configuration and rates, order scheduling, fleet and logistics planning, minimize transportation and operating costs, and ensure business and customer requirements are met.   The output of this position is critical for supporting decision making, establishing financial forecasts, and development of annual and long-term business plans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement supply plan and manage operational planning efforts to meet customer requirements while delivering targeted business goals and operational and financial metrics.
  • Proactively manage the system operational configuration and activities to maximize operating rates, minimize costs, and achieve or exceed sales forecast requirements.
  • Develop and implement viable sourcing and/or logistics alternatives should operating plan deviations occur due to production upsets, transportation constraints, or significant changes in demand.
  • Assign shipping priorities for products in a manner that supports business strategies, minimizes costs, and optimizes customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Business Management on operational planning activities and issues.
  • Support the efforts of Sales and Business Management through the timely and effective communications of supply/demand and account issues, participation in problem solving activities, and through direct customer interface at key accounts, if requested.
  • Provide planning information and recommendations for the on-going financial forecasting process, the annual business plan and long-term strategy development.
  • Effectively maximize benefits of co-producer purchases and exchanges.
  • Provide recommendations and corrective actions on quality and service issues.
  • Oversee product inventory levels by developing effective operating and replenishment plans to achieve desired inventory targets while meeting customer requirements and minimizing inventory holding and transportation costs.
  • Help to drive and support plant outage planning to optimize sales and minimize costs.
  • Be an integral business team member supporting and driving actions that maximize earnings and meet business goals.
  • Implement S&OP best practices, tools, and metrics.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures
  • Support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing opportunities for improvement or communicating ideas to management, as well as active participation on project teams
  • Perform any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned
  • This role does not have direct or indirect supervision responsibilities of Westlake or contract personnel.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Bachelor’s or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in S&OP, supply chain, engineering, or operations in a business-to-business, asset intensive, industrial or chemical business.
  • APICS Certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in making informed decisions, identifying and resolving operational/planning/logistics issues in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with implementing S&OP processes/tools.
  • Familiar with SAP, demand management, sales forecasting, inventory replenishment, and supply chain/asset optimization software tools.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and be able to develop accurate, detailed analyses under time pressure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
