JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Area Controller, the Cost Accountant manages the cost accounting activities of the Exteriors vinyl business located in Woodbridge, Ontario.  The Cost Accountant works with the Controller, Woodbridge Vinyl in supporting the costing and production reporting requirements of the Woodbridge Vinyl Plant, and additionally provides guidance to all of the vinyl and aluminum plants within the Exteriors Siding Group. 


  • Manage all costing and production reporting activities of the business in support of strategic and operational goals and in compliance with Royal Building Products policies and procedures
  • Provide support and guidance to the Finance team on costing matters related to the plants and the Exteriors Siding business as a whole
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of costing and production reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Proactively prepare costing reports and analysis of operational and production results for Operations focusing on key cost and operational metrics of the business
  • Participate, as a part of a cross-functional team, with the Controller and Plant Manager in providing inputs and analysis for the preparation of the Annual Budget and the monthly cycle forecasts
  • Develop, implement and review product costing standards
  • Collaborate with plant operations to ensure the standard costs are maintained and updated according to company policy
  • Develop and maintain standard cost systems, processes, procedures and controls
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, calculation and communication of cost related metrics
  • Analyze inventory and inventory related variances in coordination with plant controllers and operations personnel
  • Prepare detailed cost analysis and conduct cost studies on an as required basis
  • Continuously assess business and departmental processes to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Assist the Area Controller with the various reporting requirements of the Siding Group
  • Undertake other tasks/special projects as assigned by the Area Controller


  • Completion of an university degree in Finance or Business
  • A formal Accounting Designation or finalist candidate
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably as a Cost Accountant
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting,and financial analysis including key trends analysis and business case analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
  • Experience in a Sarbanes Oxley reporting environment
  • Experienced with ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards
  • Success driven and self-motivated
  • Superior problem solving skills and proven analytical ability
  • Ability to make recommendations on key financial and operating decisions
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines
