Royal Building Products is offering an opportunity to apply your experience and skills as a Contractor Cost Accountant. Reporting to the Plant Controller, the Cost Accountant supports the costing and production reporting requirements of the Columbus Vinyl Plant, and provides guidance to plant operations on all cost related matters.


The essential duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and ensure all costing and production reporting activities of the business in support of strategic and operational goals and in compliance with Royal Building Products policies and procedures
  • Proactively prepare costing reports and analysis of operational and production results for Operations focusing on key cost and operational metrics of the business
  • Participate, as a part of a cross-functional team, with the Controller and Plant Manager in providing inputs and analysis for the preparation of the Annual Budget and the monthly cycle forecasts
  • Establish and maintain all aspects of a standard cost system including material, labor and overhead rates according to company policy
  • Monitor the inventory cycle count process and assist with physical inventories
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, calculation and communication of cost related metrics
  • Analyze inventory and inventory related variances in coordination with the plant controller and operations personnel
  • Monitor daily cost and inventory transactions for accuracy and complete the closing of work orders
  • Prepare detailed cost analysis and conduct cost studies as required
  • Continuously assess business and departmental processes to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Provide costing subject matter expertise and guidance to the other US Exteriors plant as appropriate


The ideal candidate will possess the following essential skills and qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of previous accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably as a Cost Accountant
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting,  and financial analysis including key trends analysis and business case analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
  • Experience in a Sarbanes Oxley reporting environment
  • Experienced with ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards
  • Success driven and self-motivated
  • Superior problem solving skills and proven analytical ability
  • Ability to make recommendations on key financial and operating decisions

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent
