North American Pipe and Westech represent the Building Products Division.  North American Pipe and Specialty Products, a subsidiary of Westlake Chemical Corporation, is the second largest polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe manufacturer in the United States. The company is the leading provider of restrained joint specialty polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe products in the United States.  We service several distinct markets, including municipal water and sewer, residential plumbing, irrigation, agricultural and the do-it-yourself markets.  Westech Building Product, a Westlake Chemical company, produces fence and window products.

SUMMARY

Applies principles of accounting to process and analyze financial information, and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 the abilities and/or responsibilities of the staff accountant included, but are not limited to, the following:

  • General ledger accounting and related account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation to support work.
  • Preparation and processing of journal entries and various other documents (accounts payable, inventory change, expense reports) via department heads and plant managers.
  • Assist in the monthly close of the inventory system, including volume movement and production cost analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly forecasts.
  • Assist in annual budget process.
  • Prepare journal entries as necessary.
  • Proficient in the use of SAP financial modules and the SAP material master.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Assist in fixed asset accounting and in accounting for construction projects.
  • Respond to inquiries from management regarding expenses, budgets, etc.
  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description, and any other job responsibilities or tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

B.S. in Accounting, plus three to six years of relevant work experience.

Minimum 3.0 GPA

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel up to 10% including air travel or auto travel.
